Tour the birthplace of Motown Music with fellow Columbia grads June 11

Join fellow alumni on June 11th in a guided tour of Detroit’s Motown Museum where the recording studios of Hitsville USA gave birth to the Motown Sound—a distinct music that broke down racial barriers, united people, and resonated with fans of all ages and races around the world.

The list of artists who created the Motown Sound reads like a who’s who in music—Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5, the Marvelettes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lionel Richie, The Commodores, and many more.

The museum is located in the original headquarters and music recording studio for Motown Records, established by Berry Gordy in 1959.  It is home to an extensive array of authentic company artifacts, photographs, costumes, and other valued memorabilia.

Tour-goers will be transported through time while viewing curated exhibits, the actual apartment Berry Gordy lived in with his family during Motown Record’s earliest days, along with original recording equipment, and the legendary Studio A.  Our one-hour tour will be led by a knowledgeable guide, who will share the interesting history, fascinating anecdotes, and captivating stories that all took place at Hitsville U.S.A.

We hope you can join us for this special event.  Our tour group is limited to 20 people, and you must RSVP in advance to assure your participation.  We kindly ask that you bring no more than one guest, so we can reserve spaces for our Columbia graduates.  The cost is $20 per person.
