Exclusive Tour March 8 with DIA Curator Katherine Kasdorf

Please join us for a very special tour and reception with Detroit Institute of Arts Curator and Columbia University alum Katherine E. Kasdorf, PhD, Sunday, March 8 at the DIA.

As curator of Arts of Asia and the Islamic World, Katherine will share her unique perspective on these galleries and their various works of art. We'll also be able to see a new acquisition before it rotates out in April in the Islamic world gallery, a print portfolio called Countries, by the Indian-born artist Zarina.

Katherine received her PhD from Columbia University in 2013 (GSAS, Art History and Archaeology). Prior to joining the DIA in 2017, she held a Wieler-Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.

She spent her early years in Madison, Wisconsin, before moving to Ann Arbor where she attended high school. She went on to New York University to get her bachelor's and degree in Art History before completing her academic studies at Columbia University.

Our tour starts promptly at 2 p.m. in Prentis Court, just inside the John R entrance. We'll gather at the famous bronze donkey statue straight ahead as you pass the Cafe and bathrooms. Please arrive in time to go through security and admissions.

The tour will be about 60 minutes (up to 90 if there are lots of questions), followed immediately by a casual reception in Kresge Court with Katherine, who is excited to meet fellow alumni and take any additional questions or just visit over a glass of wine or bite to eat. (Food and drinks are on your own.)

The tour is limited to 25 people and requires a donation of $5 per person with your RSVP.

Please note: Museum entrance is on your own. Tri-County residents (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb) are free with proof of residence. Others: $20 general admission, $10 seniors with ID, $8 for kids 6 to 17, free to kids under 5.

Please RSVP by Monday, March 2 so we can reserve space in Kresge Court.
